For the colour palette of the film, Mikey and I sat down, watched numerous films, and researched how colour is used in the dil to convey emotion in a moment, or a mood in a setting. What we initially wanted, was a series of collective colours that all complimented one another, and when mapped out on a colour script, looked like artistically, they were a collective set of colours that unified the entire look and feel of the film. Below are several panels from the film, which demonstrates how they shall be lit and coloured.
And below! a breakdown chart of the colours representing the moods in the film...
Ultimately I wanted something distinguishably punchy. Something memorable and unconventional. Very secondary in hue tone. The night time scene has to speak for itself in mood, so it was important that we retained a level of plausibility to that, which is why we have used the colour Blue, and essentially a yellow, but peached it down so it's not as conventionally cliche. But as for the rest, we because it's all a very stylised world we wanted a lighting palette to represent that as well. Harsh shadowing will also play an integral role in bringing more energy to the palette, as this will create shapes. As there is explosions in the film, i'd very much like for those to have their own, off yellow colours bleeding in with a very punchy red as iv'e painted above.
But all in all, it's about creating something that yes will be plausible but will also not just look cool, but take from the art inspiration that I have looked at, especially how Punchy the work of Saul Bass and the Pop Artists's are.
